Parents and caregivers play one of the most important roles in the life of a child with cerebral palsy (CP). The Carer-2-Carer Programme is built on a simple but powerful idea:
Parents who understand CP can help other parents do the same.
Through this programme, Malamulele Onward trains parents and caregivers of children with CP to become facilitators who support other families in their communities. By sharing their knowledge and personal experience, they help other caregivers feel more confident, informed and supported.
Caring for a child with CP can feel overwhelming, particularly in rural areas where access to information and services may be limited. The Carer-2-Carer Programme helps bridge this gap by sharing practical information about CP in a way that is easy to understand and culturally relevant.
Workshops are delivered:
Because the learning comes from someone with lived experience, the information is often easier for families to relate to and apply in everyday life.
Parents or caregivers of children with CP are trained to facilitate a series of five workshops for other families in their community.
These workshops cover essential topics such as:
By the end of the programme, trained facilitators are able to guide and support other parents, helping them better understand their child’s condition and how to care for them effectively.
The Carer-2-Carer workshops require a number of materials in order to carry out the participatory activities. While all the necessary materials can easily be obtained, we have created convenient workshop kits that can be purchased directly through Malamulele Onward. These kits can be purchased with or without a hard copy set of the display materials. Prices and additional information can be found on the order form.
