Training Courses

Providing Essential Skills

We develop and provide training courses to equip therapists, midlevel workers, care workers and parents with the skills to have a positive and sustainable impact on children with CP and their families. We believe that by equipping all those who play an important role in the life of a child affected by CP, we can create a sustainable, long-term approach to treatment, and ultimately help more children with CP benefit from quality rehabilitation services and excellent daily care.

Practical training for therapists working with children with CP

Our therapist courses are designed for physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists who support children with cerebral palsy (CP), particularly in under-resourced hospitals and rural settings.

Working with children with CP can be complex, and many therapists begin their careers with limited practical experience. Our courses help bridge that gap by providing hands-on learning, practical tools and the confidence needed to support children and their families effectively.

What the course covers

Our Practical CP Course for Therapists is a five-day introductory programme that combines theory with real-world practice. Participants learn how to assess and treat children with different CP subtypes while working in resource-constrained environments.

Learning takes place through a range of interactive methods, including:

  • Practical therapy sessions with children
  • Clinical supervision and mentoring
  • Workshops and group discussions
  • Problem-solving activities
  • Reflection sessions

By the end of the course, therapists leave with a clearer understanding of how to start treatment, how to work collaboratively with caregivers, and how to support each child holistically.

Continuing to build skills

For therapists who have completed the introductory programme, we also offer:

  • Intermediate Practical CP Courses
  • Specialised one-day workshops on specific topics related to CP treatment and care

These additional courses help therapists deepen their clinical reasoning and develop more advanced skills for supporting children with CP..

Empowering parents with knowledge and practical skills

Parents and caregivers play a central role in the life of a child with cerebral palsy. When parents feel confident and supported, children benefit from better daily care and more opportunities to develop their abilities.

Our parent courses provide clear, practical information about CP so that families can better understand their child’s condition and feel empowered to support their development.

What parents learn

Through these courses, parents gain practical guidance on:

  • Understanding cerebral palsy and how it affects their child
  • Positioning and handling techniques
  • Feeding and communication support
  • Everyday activities that encourage development
  • Practical ways to improve their child’s comfort and participation in daily life

The courses are designed to be accessible, supportive and easy to follow, ensuring that parents feel encouraged rather than overwhelmed.

Building stronger support networks

Parent courses also create valuable opportunities for families to meet others on similar journeys. Sharing experiences, ideas and encouragement helps parents feel less isolated and more connected to a wider support network.

Supporting the people who care for children every day

Careworkers, mid-level health workers and support staff often spend the most time with children with cerebral palsy. Our careworker courses are designed to give these essential caregivers the skills and confidence they need to provide safe, supportive and effective daily care.

These courses focus on practical knowledge that can be applied immediately in homes, care centres and community settings.

What the training includes

Participants learn how to support children with CP in areas such as:

  • Safe positioning and handling
  • Feeding and daily care routines
  • Supporting communication and interaction
  • Encouraging participation in everyday activities
  • Recognising and responding to common challenges

The training combines clear explanations with hands-on demonstrations so that participants leave with practical skills they can use right away.

Creating better care environments

By strengthening the knowledge and confidence of careworkers, we help create environments where children with CP can feel safe, supported and included. When caregivers understand the needs of each child, they are better equipped to provide consistent care that improves comfort, participation and quality of life.
