Our Theory of Change

Passionate, Child-Centred, Family Forward

Helping Children Reach Their Full Potential

At Malamulele Onward, everything we do is focused on one goal:
Helping children with cerebral palsy (CP) living in rural areas reach their best potential in a supportive environment.

We’ve learned that lasting change happens when families, therapists and local health services work together. That’s why our work focuses on strengthening the entire support system around a child — not just one part of it.

What needs to change

For children with CP to thrive, three important things need to happen:

  • Parents and caregivers feel supported, confident and informed about their child’s condition.
  • Therapists and healthcare workers have the skills and understanding needed to provide effective care.
  • Local CP services are well organised, accessible and able to reach children in their communities.

How We Create Impact

Empowering Parents

Parents are one of the most important resources in a child’s life. We train and support parents so they can become active partners in their child’s care and even help other families in their community.

Building Skills

We strengthen the skills of therapists, care workers and community health staff so they feel confident treating and supporting children with CP in rural settings.

Improving Services

We work alongside hospitals and clinics to improve how CP services operate — helping them reach more children and provide better, more coordinated care.

Turning Knowledge Into Action

Our programmes bring these ideas to life through:

  • Practical training courses
  • Parent-led workshops
  • Outreach visits to rural CP services
  • Residential therapy programmes
  • Ongoing mentoring and shared learning

Over time, these activities help local CP services grow stronger and more sustainable — creating better outcomes for children and families.

Ultimately, our aim is simple:

Communities where children with CP are supported, included and able to THRIVE
